Xiuhtezcatl Roske Martinez is 15 years old. And he has just taken world leaders to task over climate change at a meeting at the United Nations building in New York.
When Martinez got up to speak, he immediately called out world leaders on their failure to make headway in dealing with climate change and the threats to our planet.
“In the last 20 years of negotiations, almost no agreements have been made on a bonding climate recovery plan,” he said.
“What’s at stake right now is the existence of my generation,” he said in his speech.
“We need to reconnect with the earth and end this mindset that we have that we can take whatever we want without ever giving back,” he said.
As an accomplished writer, hip-hop artist, climate warrior, and all-around way-too-impressive 15-year-old, Martinez speaks at a lot of events like this. Incredible as it may seem, this was the third time he’s spoken at the UN alone. And he knows how to handle it.
Check him out.
