On October 13, residents from Chickaloon, Alaska and members of Rising Tide Alaska walked onto an active coal exploration site in protest of a proposed 9,000+ acre coal mine operated by Riversdale Alaska – an Australian Mining company owned in part by RioTinto, notorious for global human rights violations.

According to Rising Tide Alaska, the group of 20 explored the development for themselves, temporarily halting work on the access road and displaying banners that read, “Save Castle Mountain” and ” It’s Wrong to Wreck our Homes”.

Tha action was partly inspired by the Tar Sands Blockade in Texas, in the lower 48.
