Environmental group in Canada warns against antibacterial agent triclosan
An antibacterial chemical called triclosan is showing up in such alarming levels in our bodies and in the environment that it should be banned from personal-care products such as hand sanitizers, soaps and toothpastes, a Toronto environmental group says. Triclosan is an antibacterial and antifungal agent used in about 1,600 cosmetics and personal care products in Canada. It can also be found in such products as children’s clothing, bedding, toys, smartphone cases and toothbrushes.

Outstanding Canadian environmentalist honored
An outstanding environmentalist was honoured with the John Hind-Smith Environmental Award during the May 15 Friends of the Sunshine Coast Conservation Association (SCCA) annual social at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt. SCCA member Eagle Walz of Powell River took home the environmental honour for his many accomplishments during the past 20 years volunteering on behalf of the planet.

US Environmentalist pleads guilty to illegal tree marking
Brian Brademeyer is charged with painting over markings to trick Forest Service crews into cutting down trees.
Black Hills environmentalist Brian Brademeyer has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of illegally marking trees to be cut in a U.S. Forest Service timber sale. Brademeyer agreed prior to a proceeding scheduled for Thursday in federal court to pay a $475 fine, plus a $25 processing fee. The maximum penalty for the charge, a federal petty offense, was $5,000 and six months in jail.
