Eco-warrior hunts fish poachers
Environmentalist Pete Bethune has turned to his thousands of online fans to help identify men he claims have repeatedly been caught fishing in a marine reserve on Auckland’s North Shore in New Zealand.
Whalers and activists clash
Three anti-whaling activists on Wednesday said they were injured in clashes with Japanese whaling boats, activist group Sea Shepherd said. Japanese whalers threw “iron grappling hooks at Sea Shepherd boats” and two of the crew were hit, Sea Shepherd said in a statement. “One crew member was struck twice in the face with a long bamboo pole,” it added.
Environmentalist escapes conviction
An environmentalist who chained himself to a dredging barge in central Queensland in Australia has avoided having a conviction recorded.
